Nine members of the same family were seriously injured in a road accident on National Highway 16 near Dhuliyara under Panskura Police Station, after returning from a visit to a Mansa temple in Madpur, West Midnapore. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when their Maruti car reportedly lost control and collided with a lorry moving ahead on the highway.
The family, residents of Parulia village under Kolaghat block, had gone to the temple for prayers. The injured have been identified as Shaktipada Jana and Padmarani Jana, along with their daughters and grandchildren, who were all travelling together in the same vehicle. The group was returning home when the accident took place, causing severe injuries to all occupants.
According to preliminary information, the accident occurred when the driver of the Maruti car lost control, leading to a rear-end collision with a heavy vehicle on NH-16. Locals alerted police immediately after the crash, following which personnel from Panskura Police Station rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, and shifted them to Panskura Super Speciality Hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctors later stated that a three-and-a-half-year-old child among the injured was in critical condition and was referred to Tamralipta Medical College and Hospital for advanced care. At present, eight injured persons, including the driver, are undergoing treatment at Panskura Super Speciality Hospital, while police have begun an investigation into the cause of the accident.
